GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG, 2nd. November,

1915.

I have the honour to inform you that from

April, 1914, when Mr. J. H. Kemp, Crow Solicitor, was appointed

to act as Attorney-General, up to August last, the Assistant

Grow Solicitor, Mr. P. M. Hodgson, carried on the work of the

Department single handed.

2.

The duties were very heavy owing among other

causes to the large number of Extradition cases which took place during the period in question. I enclose a list of these cases, and also a record of the periods, which Mr. Hodgson had to spend

in Court during the months of June, July, and August of this year.

I recommend that a bonus of £300, which sum is

3.

available from the lapsing half salary of the Assistant Crom Solicitor, should be granted to Mr. Hodgson, and if you agree to this proposal, I should be glad to receive your approval by tele-

-graph.

ANDREW BONAR LAW, M.P..
